Whenever there is an office off, there is always a call for me to home. Homecalling,!
While I was waiting for my train to halt, I observed that there were numerous numbers on the vintage blue colored Indian railway trains. What are those numbers for?
Second class (General Compartment)–the general compartment is allocated for 2 to 4 coaches in a train, typically 2 just behind the motor and 2 at the end of the train. You don’t have to book a second-class journey. Just buy your ticket from the counter in the train station, even if the train is ready to go. This is one of the cheapest ways.
These create illusions just like the boy had with numbers in ‘Tare Zameen Par’ movie.
Very few people may know the meaning of the 5-digit number written on a coach.
Check out the whole answer to know more about it.
As you can see in the above picture that the coach number of this particular coach is 04052. First two numbers 04 indicates the year in which the coach is manufactured. The remaining numbers in the digit signify the type of coach whether it is AC two tier or three tier or sleeper.
Let’s look at how that works:
001-025: AC First Class
026-050: Composite 1st AC +AC-2T
051-100: AC 2T
101-150: AC 3T
151-200: AC Chair Car
201-400: Sleeper 2nd Class
401-600: General Second Class
601-700: 2L Sitting Jan Shatabdi Chair Car
701-800: Sitting Cum Luggage Rake.
Now you can see that the coach number is 98337 which means this coach was
manufactured in the year 1998 and it is a sleeper class
So, next time when someone asks you about these codes, I hope you can give the correct information
for their awareness about railway codes.
